PhotobucketI am Missy otherwise known as Karmatir, an online moniker/handle I have adopted over time from various influences. I am a 27 year old female living in the Omaha, Nebraska, USA metro area. I adore cooking and experimenting with recipes. Being divorced, childless and without roommates, I felt like I never had a chance to have fun with my food nor share it with anyone. Into my life walked bento, Japanese cooking and all sorts of authentic international flavors and fares. I get the chance to have some fun, experiment and make really good food to at least brag about here and to my co-workers (my unwitting guinea pigs). I do work 12 hour graveyard shifts which is why you will see so much food packed in my bentos (and I frequently don’t get to eat before going to work). I also have a refrigerator, a microwave and a toaster oven at my disposal so I do pack my meals with that in mind.

For me bento is all about the good quality food, easy use of accessories and boxes and the green environmental qualities. I’m not really into the “cute” or presentation, way too much work for little ‘ole me, but I can see how those appeal to others, especially if you have children. Since this is how I normally cook, all of my recipes, dinners and bentos reflect this foodie philosophy. Besides to quote Julia Child: “It’s so beautifully arranged on the plate – you know someone’s fingers have been all over it.” I prefer to have as little involvement as possible for that reason!

Here I have the chance to show off my packed bentos, recipes and experiments, good finds and interesting purchases, all more or less food related, of course. So please, I hope something will help you as I know other’s experiments and advice have helped me tremendously.

    Dear Karmatir,
What a great find this morning when I landed on your site. In the search for getting started with the art of eating using a Bento box and all the wonderful recipes I found such a big world out here in cyberspace just with this ONE subject. I’m blown away. I’m looking forward to spending lots of time right here reading all I can that you so graciously have shared. One reason I’m wanting to change my old habits is to cut down on amounts and I believe the box holds the secret makes me more aware of how much I’m eating plus being aware of the food makeup. Thanks for being here for someone who needs to start off with lots of bento knowledge.
