In the past I have bagged up/bottled the mixed dry ingredients and given it away as a Christmas gift. Nothing easier than this recipe, but its so good. Especially fresh out of the oven with tea.

3 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
4 tablespoons powdered buttermilk (omit if using fresh buttermilk)
3/4 cup butter
1 cup water (or buttermilk if using fresh)

Combine and shift the dry ingredients. Cut the butter into the mixture until it is coarse and fine (it should resemble cornmeal). Add water or buttermilk and mix well. This produces a VERY stick soft dough.

If you would like to add dried fruit mix in whatever you like, but these are very good as is. I have made scones with virtually every dried fruit on the market and each have their own appeal.

Divide in two and roll out on a floured surface to a circle about a 1/2 inch thick. Cut each like a pizza - producing 8 triangles.

Combine 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of milk, buttermilk or cream. Brush over the tops of the triangles. Sprinkle with sugar (about 2 tablespoons, depending on preference).

Bake at 400 degrees F for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
